UNITAR - The Global E-Waste Monitor 2024
The Global E-Waste Monitor 2024 report by United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)

The latest UN-backed report shows how the world’s digital transformation is driving record levels of electronic waste. In 2022, people generated 62 billion kg (7.8 kg per person) of e-waste, but only 22 percent was properly collected and recycled. Since 2010, e-waste has risen by about 2.3 billion kg each year, far outpacing formal recycling efforts.
The report warns that rapid electrification, smart technologies, and renewable-energy devices are intensifying demand for rare materials while straining recycling systems, especially in developing countries that import used electronics. Reliable, standardized data are essential to help governments and industries close this gap, recover valuable resources, and build a circular electronics economy.
